Synopsis
Weightlifting Fairy is a story about athletes fighting for their dreams and finding love. Kim Bok-Joo (Lee Sung-Kyung) is a promising student weightlifter at Hanwool College of Physical Education. Kim Bok Joo has a bright personality and has a sense of humor. Her father is a former weightlifter and now runs a small chicken restaurant. Kim Bok-Joo and her friends are in a weightlifting team that are not popular with the guys along with not getting along with the rhythmic gymnastic team.
Meanwhile, Jung Joon-Hyung (Nam Joo-Hyuk) is a 21 years old swimmer at Hanwool College. He was traumatize because of the false start during the swimming competition which led to disqualifications. He lives with his uncle and aunt who raised him along with his cousin Jung Jae-Yi. One day on campus, Kim Bok-Joo bumps into Jung Joon-Hyung and realizes where they have seen each other before. They both went to the same elementary school and Kim Bok-Joo saved Jung Joon-Hyung's life by catching him before he fell to the ground. They meet again in college and Jung Joon Hyung starts to fall inlove with Kim Bok-Joo. Although she has always been the best, mental pressured caused her to break up with Jung Joon Hyung and regret it.
A naturally gifted weightlifter with an ambitious personality. She stands up for injustice, but is shy and awkward around boys. She hides her insecurities and fragile heart under her strong exterior.
Bok-joo's best friend, a talented swimmer with a playful personality. He suffers a trauma that began when he made a false start at his first big international competition and got disqualified.
Joon-hyung's cousin and older brother. A former athlete who becomes an obesity doctor due to an injury. His gentle and kind personality makes him the first man that Bok-joo falls in love with.
A top-class rhythmic gymnast, who won a silver medal at the Asian Games at the age of eighteen. She is an overachiever, and is under constant stress about her developing figure, which causes her to break up with Joon-hyung
